It all started with the discovery of the planet SIG-IV, with its two moons, as dry as a desert as it could get.
It made sense at that time to pay homage, and no less than three years of it being found, we ended up renaming it as Tatooine.
It was fun for most people. Silly for others. But it wasn’t the first time we had named species and new discoveries with references in their names and titles, so we got a free pass there. It wouldn't be the last.
Soon enough, our first explorer ship was built and launched at space, with a five year mission (which was both logical and appropriated considering the resources we had).
It was obviously named Enterprise I. We only had to wait eighty more years to watch a Millennium Falcon flying through the edges of the galaxy, military forces piloting X-Wings near our Moon, finding their rest at our SDF-1.
There was even a Serenity for sometime, but it got rightly destroyed after a short run with a meteorite shower we hadn’t predicted properly. It was becoming clear for some that we were becoming stories.
A hundred more years passed down, and then another hundred, but the humanity expansion through the galaxy went on relentlessly. There was now a real John Carter living at Mars. With cities, and rivers made of sand and people projecting what their minds desired into existence.
There were Two Towers built at some settlement in New Zealand, Draenei-named settlements living past one moon of Saturn and if you travelled far enough past the center of the galaxy, and squinted your eyes at the right distance, you’d soon find out the structure you were watching near Jupiter was certainly no moon.
Thousands of years went by once again, and by now, stories were reality, technology impacting every atom of our existence. Sufficiently advanced one, able to mold and adjust reality. Lasers, lightsabers and what some would call The Force. There were no longer legends, for what we remembered, we had already built.
The geeks had won.
But what we had never expected, and never had thought of, became reality as well. Humanity was, at its core, unchanged. And thus, for every Jedi there was now a Sith, and a warlock for each sorcerer.
Stormtroopers and Orcs wielded Relics of Dark Powers across Forbidden Lands.
We had build the tools to make our dreams come true, but our essence had brought nightmares alive as well. The stories we had grown up reading were now reality and we were about to pay a great of a price for that.
